Boris is a passionate wilderness guide and an accomplished photographer. He worked in South East Alaska as a guide for 10 years before he first set foot on a polar expedition cruise ship. Wildlife and remote regions excite him to keep exploring.
Boris spent his early childhood in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia before his family moved back to the US where he attended high school and university. At Texas A&M he studied horticulture. After a few years working in the horticulture industry in the lower 48, the opportunity to work in Alaska presented itself and he moved north and became a hiking and rafting guide. While based out of Skagway and Haines he guided on the Alsek-Tatshenshini River in Glacier Bay and Kluane National Park. Boris spent six years off the grid at Glacier Point, outside of Haines, working on the Davidson Glacier. After becoming a US Coast guard licensed Captain he ran a fishing charter business out of Haines.
Like many guides living in Alaska he was looking for work in the winter season. Antarctica and the Arctic are in many ways similar to Alaska and the environment he was used to, wilderness, icy cold waters, ice bergs, glaciers and in the north, bears.
As an Expedition Leader, Boris has numerous trips to Antarctica, South Georgia and the Falklands under his belt. In the north he has specialized in the Canadian Arctic, this has taken him through the North West Passage, through Fury and Hecla Straight, around Baffin Island and many places in Greenland.
Boris is an avid sportsman as long as it involves boards, bikes, or skis. All these activities he includes in his time off work when he travels the world in a ’91 Volkswagen Westfalia Syncro, which has turned into a mobile adventure home base.
